Travel & Tips
Getting to Mazatlan
By Flight
We recommend flying in from Los Angeles (US) or Mexico City.
While in Mazatlan
There are not a lot of Ubers in Mazatlan, so we recommend getting a taxi from the airport (approx. 45 mins - US$24 to US$35). In town, a lot of people get around on regular taxis and the Mazatlan famous "pulmonias" or "aurigas" (see images).
About Mazatlan
For those unfamiliar with the area, Mazatlan is located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. With its beautiful colonial architecture and its refreshing beachy atmosphere, it has become a popular tourist destination with so much to offer. Many Europeans and North Americans visit and retire in Mazatlan, and enjoy a variety of activities including cultural events, surfing, fishing, eating, and much more. The city is also home to a thriving arts and music scene, as well as numerous museums and galleries.
Beaches
Mazatlán boasts several beautiful beaches, including the beach at Isla del Medio, Playa Gaviotas, Playa Cerritos. Visitors can relax on the sandy shores, swim in the Pacific Ocean, or engage in water sports like kayaking, surfing and parasailing.
Centro Histórico
Explore the historic center of Mazatlán, known as the "Centro Histórico." It features colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and iconic landmarks like the Plazuela Machado, Angela Peralta Theater and the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. You can also find really nice restaurants and bars around the area.
Malecón de Mazatlán
Stroll along the Malecón, a scenic boardwalk that stretches for 21km along the coast. You'll find statues, monuments, and excellent views of the ocean. It's a great place for an evening walk or bike ride.
El Faro
Visit and hike up El Faro, one of the highest lighthouses in the world, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Pacific Ocean. It's a popular spot for sightseeing and photos. It is an easy to medium hike to get to the top and you can visit the skywalk for some nice photos.
Observatorio Mazatlan
Take a step into history through a funicular ride. Admire the great views from the top of Cerro del Vigía where you can learn a bit more about Mazatlan’s history and experience a trip to the past inside one of the oldest buildings in the city, where at the same time you can do a whole lot of different activities and finish up at their sky bar. Perfect to watch the sunset enjoying a drink.
